Aurora and Churchill 2013 Presentation
You should be able to right click and do a Save Page As to download
each file. Or if you double click on a file, it should play if you
have Powerpoint and the correct video players. Some of the files are large so be patient.
The presentation was done in Powerpoint 2011 for Macs so it has the
videos embedded in it. If the videos don't play automatically after a
few seconds, then
use your mouse at the bottom of the slide to start it up.
Windows versions of Powerpoint should also be able to play the slideshow.
Or if you have earlier version of Powerpoint you should download or
play on-line the individual videos: wmv works for Windows; mp4 works
for Macs.
Yes, all the aurora pictures were taken at night (look for the stars!).
The camera, with it's great light gathering ability, will sometimes
show the sky blue making
it appear that it is daytime.
The time lapse videos were made from 50 to hundreds of pictures taken over anywhere from 4 to many more minutes.
Jim Halfpenny and Dave Marx collaborated on a digital photography
course which was very intense and produced some great pics and
timelapse videos that they
graciously let us use. Watch their videos, check out their links.
Cameras pick up more intensity and colors than do your eyes. But
that was part of the fun of learning about auroras and learning to film
them!
Most of the slideshow is self-explanatory but some isn't. Enjoy the pics and videos, at least.
If you are interested in going up to see the northern lights (or
polar bears, beluga whales, etc.) in Churchill, get in touch as we know
quite a bit about getting there, etc.
Churchill Northern Studies Centre where we stayed for both the polar bears in 2010 and auroras in 2013. See all their offerings.
